Easy to Grow Christmas Palm Tree
Below is a video I made that takes you through the whole process of growing your own palm trees. The variety I have chosen is called the ‘Manila Palm’, which is often referred to as the ‘Christmas Palm’, due to its abundance of red fruit
We start by taking some of the fruit from the ground, cleaning off the skin and scarifying them in hot water for 24 hours, before sowing.
We then sow them in pots with general compost, 1/4″ (6mm) below the surface.
23 days later, most had already germinated, with shoots breaking the surface of the compost.
The video then moves on to Day 45, where we already have plants resembling palm trees. I also show you a sample of one I grew before
Above is a video I made while these Christmas Palms were growing. It is a full step-by-step tutorial
Transferring to Garden & Aftercare
I recommend that you transfer them into their final position in the garden as soon as they reach 18″ (450mm). They may take several months to root in, but make sure the area is kept moist. It is probably best not to do this in the middle of the summer.
Generally, they do not need much in the way of fertilizer, but you can put a little bit of NPK 13-5-13 or similar llike in the link below
